Two Sides of Responsible Gambling
Responsible gambling rests on cooperation between the operator and the player. Their shared aim is for play to stay conscious and controlled, for the risks of excessive gambling to shrink and for no addiction to develop.
- The operator. Like every gambling operator, EVONA ELECTRONIC, spol. s r.o. is obliged under §§ 13 to 16 of zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. to equip players with tools and information for safe gambling. In concrete terms, this means financial and time limits, information about risks and self-exclusion, and the protection of minors.
- The player. They monitor their own behaviour and try to catch the warning signs of problem gambling as early as possible.
When Gambling Stops Being Entertainment
Gambling that escapes your control can be recognised by changes in behaviour. You play more often or for larger amounts, go beyond the financial limits you set yourself or borrow money to play, and try to make up losses with another round. Gambling crowds out work, study and family, you hide it from those close to you and you do not stop even when it brings debts or conflicts.
Emotions and health can send signals too. When you are unable to play, you feel restless, irritable or anxious, and your mental or physical condition deteriorates in connection with gambling.
Do you see these changes in yourself or in someone you care about? Do not wait: use the prevention tools or get in touch with professionals.
Self-Control Tools in the Player Account
Under zákon č. 186/2016 Sb., BetX offers players several ways to restrict their gambling. All of them are available in the user account, for every registered player.
Financial limits are the foundation. A deposit limit determines how much money can be paid into the gaming account per day, week or month; once it is used up, further deposits are blocked until the period ends. The bet and loss limit works in a similar way: it tracks the total stakes or net loss over a chosen time and stops further play once the threshold is reached.
Time is covered by the time limit, which is the longest period a player may spend gambling per day or week, and by the reality check, which regularly reminds the player how long the session has lasted. Anyone who needs a pause can choose a time-out of 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days. During that time it is not possible to log in or play, and afterwards the account is active again.
Limits are set, reduced and cancelled directly in the account. An increase is only possible after a protection period of at least 24 hours.
The Panic Button for Internet Games and Gaming Halls
Since 1 July 2024, operators of internet gambling and gaming halls have had to provide players with a so-called panic button. This obligation was introduced by § 16bb of zákon č. 186/2016 Sb.
What happens after it is pressed:
- the player is excluded from all gambling immediately and temporarily,
- the exclusion automatically covers all the operator's online platforms,
- for 48 hours the player cannot take part in gambling,
- at the same time, the player is invited to file an application for inclusion in the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO).
The button is located in the user interface and intended for all registered players.
Self-Exclusion Step by Step
- Who: any player, as this right is granted by § 16 and § 16b of zákon č. 186/2016 Sb.
- What: temporary or permanent exclusion from taking part in gambling.
- Where: in the user account or through the gambling operator.
- Reach: an entry in the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO) covers all operators in the Czech Republic.
- Duration: removal from the RVO can only be requested once one year has passed since the entry.
The RVO: Consequences of an Entry and How to Apply
What an entry leads to
A person recorded in the Register of Excluded Persons (RVO) is barred from gambling with every licensed operator in the Czech Republic.
Ways to apply
In your user account with the operator, by confirming after activating the panic button, by a data box message addressed to the Ministry of Finance (Ministerstvo financí ČR), or in person at Czech POINT.
Who keeps the register and whom it lists
The Czech Ministry of Finance, under zákon č. 186/2016 Sb. Apart from people who have asked for exclusion, it records people excluded by law, for example those facing enforcement or insolvency proceedings or receiving certain benefits.
Minors and Gambling
- Age limit: 18 years, as set by zákon č. 186/2016 Sb.
- Who verifies: the operator, for each player, for example through BankID or another method.
- When the check happens: at registration and again when a player withdraws winnings.
- What applies to minors: their participation is strictly prohibited.
A Quick Self-Check for Players
Please note: this is a rough aid and does not replace a diagnosis from a professional. The questions are derived from the PGSI questionnaire (Problem Gambling Severity Index).
- Do you return to gambling to catch up on what you lost?
- Do you often spend more on gambling than you wanted to?
- Have you borrowed so that you could keep playing?
- Have you ever thought that you play too much and should cut down?
- Have you neglected a duty or a relationship because of gambling?
- Do you blame yourself for gambling?
- Have people around you noticed that you have difficulties with gambling?
Did you answer yes to more than one question? Then we recommend using the prevention tools or seeking professional help.
